A Brief History of Village Theatre Project
Village Theatre Project, a new professional
theatre company based in Groton and Harvard, Massachusetts and
utilizing other performance venues in the Nashoba Valley, was
co-founded in 2004 by Artistic Directors Christopher Chew and
Troy Siebels. The Company is based around our Company of Artists
– a 23-member ensemble of professional actors, directors,
designers and choreographers living and working in the greater
Boston and New York theatre communities, and wishing to take a
more active role in the development of new theatrical works than
is possible as freelance artists; and wishing to make a more direct
connection with audiences than is common on commercial stages.
The theatre was created so that those artists
could feel supported in an environment that promotes the freedom
to explore and further develop their individual skills while embracing
their talents, passion and collaborative spirit.
Village Theatre Project began operating its youth
theatre education program, the Young Company, in fall 2004; and
launched the professional company in June 2005 with a Grand Opening
Performance in Groton, which was sold out and extremely well received.
