A Brief History
Connecting
with the Community

  • To explore the relevance of theatre to today’s world, and how it reflects and influences our lives.

  • We will produce and develop plays and musicals that amplify the voice of our community and our region, by portraying or speaking to who we are.

  • To create an artistic home

  • For our ensemble of artists – to feel supported in an environment that encourages freedom to explore and further develop their individual skills as artists while embracing all of their talents and passions.

We believe that successful theatres succeed because of the commitment of, and investment in, the artists that participate; that those artists must always come first; and that the theatre’s job should be to equip and support those artists. From this basic philosophy we have built a professional not-for-profit theatre company based around an ensemble of highly accomplished artists working collectively and collaboratively to challenge themselves and others through their work.

We believe that successful theatrical works are successful because of the passion of the artists. Most freelance artists are only able to pursue projects chosen by administrators, driven by dollars. By selecting projects from the passions of our Company, we will ultimately achieve more and earn greater respect of audiences
    .

For our audiences – to feel a part of the process of creating theatre - not simply witnessing the final product but contributing to and participating in the experience of its creation.

The American theatre community is not growing and developing new audiences as it once did, because it is not successfully connecting with those audiences. Many theatres try to compete with television or movies, with “easy” theatre. We will accentuate, rather than minimize, the profound differences between theatre and film – the difference between viewing a finished statue and watching a master carver chisel the final details from the stone.

  • To actively develop new theatrical works, both plays and musicals, and to contribute to their future success.

We intend to work continually and regularly toward developing new plays and musicals, through the collaborative work of actors, directors, playwrights and composers in a workshop or dramatic reading atmosphere.

We see ourselves as a cultural institution much like an interactive museum – We will not only present performances, as a museum would present featured exhibits; and celebrate theatre artists, as a museum celebrates visual artists; but will also serve an ongoing mission to develop new works, to develop our skills as artists, and to engender the active participation of audiences.

  • To provide an environment where young people are celebrated and challenged academically, physically, emotionally and socially through the unique experience of creating live theatre.

We believe that Arts Education is essential in developing the hearts and minds of tomorrow’s leaders, and that theatre education utilizes all of the multiple intelligences as it develops well-rounded contributors to, and active participants in, society.
