The Village Theatre Project Young Company

Get the Professional Edge...

Village Theatre Project’s educational component consists of two programs: it’s REP Program and it’s Youth Program. The REP Program is a conservatory-based approach to studying acting techniques, utilizing the advanced theatrical exercises found at most universities, and is open to students at least 13 years old. The Youth Program is the traditional youth model, centered on the performance of a specific musical, and is open to students at least 8 years old.

Alumni of our educational programs are now studying theatre with colleges such as Carnegie-Mellon University, Boston University, Wagner, and Hampshire, and they are also performing professionally: in Broadway’s Spring Awakening and internationally with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Summer 2008 Production - The Sound Of Music

Our Youth Program will partner with Indian Hill Arts for a second summer as we jointly produce The Sound of Music, commencing June 23rd and running through July 20th, directed by our own Artistic Director, Christopher Chew. Information and registration forms are available online at www.indianhillmusic.org.

Spring REP

April 7-May 26 (no class on April 21st), 6-9 PM
Friendly Crossways Retreat Center - Harvard, MA

Tuition: $375

Monday Masters Classes - This Spring’s focus will be developing individual work for the actor through a series of workshops taught by a variety of our Professional Company Members. Each student will develop his or her own monologue from plays already existing in the Cannon of American Theater. Our workshops will be dedicated to developing skills to further strengthen the monologue work and at the end of the eight-week session the students will perform all of the monologues before an invited audience and receive feedback from a panel of Professional Artists.

Workshops Include:

  • CREATING MULTIPLE CHARACTERS FOR ONE PIECE
  • LEARNING AND USING DIALECTS
  • FREEING THE NATURAL VOICE
  • THE BENEFITS OF CLASSICAL LANGUAGE IN A CONTEMPORARY WORLD
  • CREATING A MONOLOGUE OUT OF DIALOGUE
  • EXAMINING AUDITION TECHNIQUES
  • HOW TO MAKE WORK = PLAY!

The Village Theatre Project’s Company of Artists are trained professional artists, but many are also trained professional educators. This Spring our REP teachers will include Christine Hamel, Beth Gotha, Bill Mootos, Dale Place, Corey Jackson, Kortney Adams, Liz Hayes, Laura DiGiacomo, & Christopher Chew. If you would like to register for this program, please complete the form below and facsimile or mail to us.

The REP is not designed exclusively for students considering a professional performance career. All levels of experience are encouraged to audition, and all students will be given equal performance opportunities.
